Subject: Support for the Proposed 52,930-Acre Conservation Easement
Flathead County Commissioners Support Proposed 52,930-Acre Conservation Easement
The Flathead County Board of Commissioners strongly supports the efforts of Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks to secure a conservation easement on 52,930 acres of timberland currently owned by Green Diamond Resource Company in northwest Montana. This project is the second phase of a two-part initiative to protect a total of 85,752 acres of critical fish and wildlife habitat, ensuring the long-term conservation of these lands while allowing for continued sustainable forestry operations.
This conservation easement will provide permanent free public access to these lands, preserving invaluable recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The ability to hunt, fish, and enjoy Montana's great outdoors is a cornerstone of our state's heritage, economy, and quality of life, making the protection of these lands a significant benefit to the public.
Equally important, the easement allows Green Diamond to continue sustainable timber harvesting while ensuring responsible resource management. This working-lands approach supports local jobs in the timber industry and bolsters the economic well-being of the region.
We commend Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for its dedication to conservation, responsible land management, and public access, and we encourage continued support for this important effort.
Sincerely,
Board of Commissioners
