
About the Superintendent of Schools
The County Superintendent of Schools is elected to a four-year term and must hold a current Montana teaching certificate with a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Due to the number of independent school districts in Flathead County, the position serves as a full-time educational leadership and administrative office.
The Superintendent provides general supervision and support for public education throughout Flathead County. Responsibilities established by state law include administration, transportation, tuition matters, school district organization, classification, boundary adjustments, financial oversight, record keeping, and support for Montana's homeschool requirements.
The office serves as a resource for school boards, educators, parents, students, and community members seeking guidance on federal, state, and local laws affecting education.
The Flathead County Superintendent of Schools also serves as the fiscal agent for the Flathead County Special Education Cooperative and provides administrative support for cooperative educational services throughout the region.
Due to the large number of independent school districts in Flathead County (23), the position serves as a full-time educational leadership and administrative office.
