What Is Extension?
Montana State University is a land-grant university. Like other universities, MSU provides research and teaching. As a land-grant university, MSU also has a third mission: Extension.
Extension means reaching out and extending university resources to help solve public needs through practical, non-formal, non-credit education.
Montana State University Extension works to improve quality of life by sharing research-based knowledge that strengthens the social, economic, and environmental well-being of families, communities, and agricultural enterprises.
Flathead County Extension connects residents with local agents, MSU faculty, and topic specialists through workshops, demonstrations, community meetings, publications, videos, online resources, and direct assistance.
