Tucked inside the historic Flathead County Courthouse, where generations of decisions have shaped our community, stands a place of honor—glass display cases in the Commissioners’ Chambers, waiting to showcase the rich history of Montana. Now, we’re inviting YOU to be a part of that legacy.
Do you own a unique historical artifact that tells a story of Montana’s past? Perhaps a tall, three-dimensional piece—a striking sculpture, a vintage tool or gun, an heirloom saddle, or a relic from the early days of Flathead County? If so, this is your chance to share a piece of history with the community in one of the most distinguished buildings in the county.
And here’s the best part—your piece could be displayed alongside works by some of Montana’s most celebrated artists, courtesy of the Hockaday Museum of Art. Imagine your family heirloom or historical treasure standing side by side with artifacts that have shaped Montana’s cultural heritage.
A Place of Honor for Your Piece of the Past
The Flathead County Heritage Art Initiative is accepting submissions to select artifacts to be displayed in our secure, locked glass cases (40 inches wide by 74 inches tall), where commissioners, citizens, and visitors alike can admire them. Each piece will be accompanied by a title and description card, proudly crediting the owner who generously loaned it.
This isn’t just about decoration—it’s about preserving and celebrating the history that makes Montana special. Whether it’s a handcrafted item from the homesteading era, a piece of frontier craftsmanship, or a relic from Flathead County’s early days, we want to showcase items that capture the spirit of Montana’s past.
