National Volunteer Appreciation Week – It’s surprising how many Flathead County departments rely on a spirit of volunteerism. Volunteers are truly a force multiplier and here are just a few examples (there are many, many more, so please forgive us if you’re group isn’t mentioned here), that are under Flathead County:
Sheriff’s Posse – These volunteers augment countless events providing security and safety for the public. To volunteer: https://sheriffsposse.net/become-a-volunteer/
Meals on Wheels Drivers – Responsible for delivering roughly 10,000 meals a month to valley seniors. Email if you want to volunteer or need to schedule meals.
Flathead Library Volunteers – An entirely volunteer-based organization holds annual Booksale which has brought in thousands of dollars each year to support library programs: https://www.imagineiffriends.com
Elections – Volunteers help our elections staff make sure that the primary action of democracy is done right. If you would like to be part of this dedicated team, complete the application: https://flathead.mt.gov/download_file/view/cc9555f7-7114-400c-b6f9-0b0cd26f748b/1331
Parks & Recreations – Keeping kids busy outdoors during the summer takes a lot of people. If you’d like to volunteer to coach or referee for youth sports this summer, complete this application: www.flathead.mt.gov/department-directory/parks-and-recreation/recreation/volunteer_enrollment
Fairgrounds – What a fun way to see shows, rodeos or attend the fair by volunteering at the Flathead Fairgrounds. Give Fair Manager Sam Nunnally a call if you’re interested: 406-758-5810.
Animal Shelter. Play, care for, or foster abandoned dogs and cats from our shelter: www.flathead.mt.gov/application/files/6416/5893/9598/Volunteer_Application.pdf
4H - Volunteer helping youth learn life lessons including animal science, family and consumer science, engineering and technology, plant sciences, leadership, and nutrition. https://www.montana.edu/extension/flathead/
Fire and EMS volunteers. From Lakeside to Ferndale, Bad Rock to Marion and every other community in the county, these volunteer first line defenders work in every corner of our very large county to protect us all. Thank you!
Board Members – Not at all last nor least, thank you to all our board members. Making tough decisions – and often getting publicly criticized in the process – for the love of Flathead. Available Board positions can be found at https://flatheadcounty.gov/department-directory/commissioners-office/our_boards/misc-board-and-committee-opportunities. We couldn’t do it without you!
