A Life Under the Hood: Celebrating Simon Evans’ Five Years with Flathead County

After a career that has spanned continents and weathered literal storms, Simon Evans found his way to the Flathead Valley five years ago. Today, we are proud to recognize him with a milestone achievement award for his dedicated service as a mechanic for Flathead County.

Simon’s journey to our shop was anything but typical. Originally from Hinckley in the English Midlands, Simon completed a triple master apprenticeship in England before moving to the United States 43 years ago at the age of 21. His resume reads like a map of high-stakes mechanical work: he has served as a field service mechanic for United Airlines and worked on oil tankers, military ships, and equipment in the oil fields of Anchorage, Alaska. From the heat of Palm Springs to the intensity of witnessing earthquakes, firestorms, and hurricanes, Simon has seen it all.

So, why did a triple master mechanic who once managed a shop in Southern California decide to trade the fast lane for Flathead County? For Simon, it was about finding a community that felt like home. After visiting Kalispell on vacation and falling in love with the area, he decided it was time to reduce the stress of "off the street" customers and join a team where everyone works together.

In our Road and Bridge department, Simon’s expertise is invaluable. While he primarily focuses on smaller vehicles—specifically keeping our Sheriff’s Office fleet in top shape—he also lends his skills to specialized equipment like rescue boats and armored vehicles. He speaks highly of the culture here, noting that unlike "money-hungry" dealerships, the County provides the team with everything they need to succeed.

"We have everything we need," Simon says of his department. "Everyone is a team player and everyone works together well. The guys are great".

Simon and his wife plan to head to Florida for their retirement to be near family. But for now, we are lucky to have his world-class experience maintaining the vehicles that keep Flathead County moving safely.

Congratulations, Simon, on five years of excellence. We are honored to have you on the team.
