Homeschool Requirements
Montana homeschool information is based on state law and guidance from the Montana Office of Public Instruction. The information shared here is intended to help families understand common homeschool requirements, but it is not legal advice.
1. Submit an Annual Notice
A notice of intent to homeschool must be submitted each year to the Flathead County Superintendent of Schools.
The form may be completed online and emailed back to the office.
2. Keep Attendance Records
Homeschool families are responsible for keeping attendance records. The attendance template below is provided as a helpful recordkeeping tool.
3. Review State Homeschool Information
The Montana Office of Public Instruction provides information about Montana statutes and administrative rules related to private, nonpublic, and home schools.
Federal Programs
School districts are required to notify non-public schools about their right to participate in programs that are funded by federal dollars. The Office of the County Superintendent serves as a liaison between school districts and non-public schools by providing information about the title programs thereby giving all schools an opportunity to participate in these programs.
