File electronically through Montana Courts
Montana Courts provides the official e-filing portal. Use this portal to log in, register, submit filings, and manage electronic filing activity.
Who uses electronic filing?
Electronic filing is intended for people who are authorized to file documents in court cases through the Montana Courts system. This may include:
- Attorneys
- Government attorneys
- Authorized staff filing on behalf of an attorney or court official
- Court reporters
- Judges, clerks, and court personnel
- Other approved case participants
Access to case documents is limited. Registering for e-filing does not automatically give a person access to every court case or every court document.
What the Clerk of District Court does
When a filing is submitted electronically, the Clerk of District Court reviews the filing for processing. The clerk may accept the filing or return it for correction. Accepted filings are returned to the filer with the appropriate electronic filing confirmation and timestamp.
The Clerk of District Court cannot provide legal advice, choose filing types for you, or tell you what documents to file.
Before you register
Registration depends on your role in the court system. Choosing the correct role is important because it affects what you can file and what case information you can access.
