Protecting Our Community: A New Shield Against Property Fraud in Flathead County
Property ownership is a cornerstone of the American dream, yet it is increasingly under threat from a growing white-collar crime: property fraud. This occurs when thieves record fraudulent documents against your property to establish ownership for financial gain. As your Public Information Officer, I am proud to announce that the Flathead County Clerk & Recorder’s Office is launching a powerful new tool to help our staff and residents stay one step ahead of these bad actors: Document Alert.
A Free, Vigilant Watchman for Your Property
Document Alert is a completely free service designed to give you peace of mind. Once you subscribe, the system acts as a digital watchman, sending you an automated email notification any time a document is recorded in our office using your name or your property's specific parcel number.
This service allows you to be the first to know about changes to your records, giving you the power to decide if a recording is legitimate or if you need to take immediate action. Because these alerts are sent promptly within 24-hours for new recordings, they provide the essential window of time needed to act quickly if something looks suspicious.
How to Get Started
Setting up your protection is a simple, two-step process that can be completed online at idocmarket.com:
- Create Your Account: Visit the site, click "Sign In," and select "Create an Account". You'll just need your email, name, and a password to get started.
- Set Up Your Alerts: Once logged in, click "Document Alerts" and select Flathead County. You can customize your alerts by adding up to five conditions, such as your name (Grantor/Grantee), legal description, or parcel number.
If you don't know your parcel number, you can easily find it via the county’s land information system at maps.flatheadcounty.gov.
Empowering Our Neighbors
While the Clerk & Recorder’s Office cannot provide legal advice or resolve disputes, we are committed to providing you with the transparency and tools necessary to monitor your records. If you believe a fraudulent document has been recorded, we urge you to seek private legal assistance immediately.
This service is available to every member of the public and all Flathead County staff. We encourage you to sign up today and add this free layer of security to your most valuable asset.
