Groundwater Monitoring

Groundwater monitoring helps Environmental Health evaluate seasonal groundwater conditions for septic system review and environmental protection.

Monitoring is typically performed during spring runoff conditions using temporary groundwater monitoring pipes installed on a property.

Who May Need Groundwater Monitoring?

Groundwater monitoring may be required for certain septic applications, subdivisions, development proposals, or properties with seasonal groundwater concerns.

Environmental Health staff will determine whether monitoring is required as part of the site review process.

Groundwater Monitoring Process

Submit an Application

Complete the groundwater monitoring application and registration materials.

Install Monitoring Pipes

Monitoring pipes must be properly installed and identified on a site plan.

Record Measurements

Measurements are recorded throughout the spring monitoring season.

Submit Final Logs

Completed monitoring logs and documentation are submitted to Environmental Health.

Groundwater Monitoring Season

Monitoring season typically runs from March 15 through June 30 during spring runoff conditions. Measurements are generally recorded weekly and final documentation must be submitted after monitoring is complete.
