Required Documentation
Photo for Permit
- Color photo, taken within the last 6 months
- High-resolution, clear image of your face
- No selfies, filters, hats, or sunglasses (remove glasses if glare hides your eyes)
- Plain white or solid light-colored background
- Not acceptable: photos of a driver's license, passport, or other ID
- Applications may be delayed or rejected if photo requirements are not met

Other Documents
- Scan/photo of current permit (if renewing or transferring)
- Proof of weapons training (if applying for a new permit)
Acceptable Proof of Weapons Training
- Military Discharge Form DD-214 (request duplicate via MT Veterans Affairs: (406) 755-3795)
- fwp.mt.gov) Hunter Safety Certificate (duplicate cards:
- Weapons training certificate from a certified instructor
- Concealed weapons permit from another state (may be accepted)
