You get your driver's license at Driver's Services. Driver’s Services is a State of Montana office and a separate entity. They can be reached by phone at (406) 444-1772. They are located at 1325 Hwy 2 W Suite E, Kalispell MT 59901.
You will need your registration receipt, current license plate number, your title number, or your VIN for the vehicle you wish to renew.
A legal* bill of sale with an original signature, the title that has been properly signed off by the previous owner, or your current registration from another state that is in your name, if you need to wait to get your title mailed to us. A 40-day temporary costs $20.09 and is due at the time of issuance. You can only purchase ONE temporary registration permit.
*Legal bill of sale needs to be signed by the seller and must contain the vehicle's year, make, model and vehicle identification number (VIN). The name and address of both the seller and the purchaser must also be included. You can register your new/used vehicle after the dealer delivers the title work to our office. If your temporary registration permit is close to expiring and you have not heard from us, please contact your dealer to inquire about your title work and/or extend your temporary registration permit.

Yes, but we must have your physical title. You will need to request your title be sent to us at Flathead County Treasurer 290 A North Main Kalispell, MT 59901. We have a generic request form you can print off, fill out, and send to your lien holder requesting your physical title be sent to the Treasurer’s office. The request form can be found on the motor vehicle website. You will click on the green button labeled “Lienholder Letter” to get the form.
No, beginning October 1, 2025, notarization will no longer be required on a Montana title by individuals or businesses. Titles produced after October 1, 2025, will no longer have a notary section. Titles produced prior to October 1st will be accepted without the notary section completed.
