FCAS uses a level system to help new volunteers build skills through training, experience, and mentorship. This system supports safety, consistency, and the best possible outcomes for animals.
All new volunteers start at the introductory level. As volunteers gain experience, they may progress into advanced levels and specialized roles.
Adult Volunteer Program
Adult volunteers support shelter operations, animal enrichment, and hands-on care activities. Volunteer roles may include dog socialization, cat comfort, cleaning and care tasks, enrichment preparation, and advanced opportunities as training and experience allow.
Adult volunteers are expected to complete required training, follow all safety and handling protocols, and communicate with staff about animal interactions and concerns.
Junior Volunteer Program
Ages 12–17
The Junior Volunteer Program introduces younger volunteers to animal welfare in a safe, structured, and supervised environment.
Junior volunteers may help with age-appropriate animal socialization, cleaning tasks such as dishes and laundry, and enrichment preparation.
