Passport forms, fees, documentation requirements, renewal rules, processing times, photo requirements, and urgent travel instructions are maintained by the U.S. Department of State.
Before you visit
The Clerk of District Court can accept passport applications, but passport books and passport cards are issued by the U.S. Department of State. Review the federal passport requirements before coming to the office so your application is not delayed.
Payment information
Passport applicants usually pay two separate fees: one fee to the U.S. Department of State and one acceptance fee to the passport acceptance facility.
- Passport application fees: Payable to the U.S. Department of State by check or money order.
- Acceptance fee: A mandatory $35 facility acceptance fee is collected when the application is accepted. This fee must be paid in cash.
- Expedited service: Expedited processing costs an additional $60.
Review the current federal fee information before applying, especially if you need expedited processing or faster return delivery.

Adults age 16 and older
Applicants age 16 and older must sign their own passport application. Passports issued to applicants age 16 and older are generally valid for 10 years.
Applicants age 16 and 17 must show parental awareness. In many cases, this means one parent or legal guardian should appear with the applicant or sign the application.
Children under age 16
Children under age 16 must apply in person. Both parents or legal guardians usually must give consent. If one parent or guardian cannot appear, the absent parent may need to provide a notarized statement of consent.
Passports issued to children under age 16 are generally valid for five years.
Passport renewals
Many adult passport renewals do not need to be processed through this office. If you previously had a 10-year passport, can submit your most recent passport, and meet the federal renewal requirements, you may be able to renew by mail or online.
Renewing directly through the U.S. Department of State may allow you to avoid the local acceptance facility process and the $35 acceptance fee.
Renew a passport by mail
Review the federal requirements for renewing an eligible passport by mail.
Renew a passport online
Some eligible adults may renew online through the U.S. Department of State.
Processing times and travel plans
Passport processing times are set by the U.S. Department of State and may change. Routine and expedited processing times do not include mailing time, so plan ahead before booking international travel.
