Why this training matters
Montana has seen a significant increase in syphilis and congenital syphilis. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services recommends syphilis screening during pregnancy at the first prenatal visit, at 28 weeks gestation, and at delivery, regardless of risk factors.
DPHHS also recommends screening at the time of a positive pregnancy test, when prenatal care is absent or inconsistent, when other sexually transmitted infections are diagnosed, before discharge after delivery when prenatal care was absent or limited, and after fetal death after 20 weeks gestation.
