Contacting an Inmate

NCIC Inmate Communications
Inmate phone, video visit, and messaging services are provided by NCIC Inmate Communications. Inmates are given access to telephones after the booking process is complete. Telephones for private use are located in each housing area.
No incoming calls can be received, except voicemail messages to approved inmates. Inmate calls are billed at a per-minute rate with no connection fees. Three-way calls are prohibited.
For billing or account access questions, call NCIC customer support at 1-800-943-2189. Support is available 24 hours a day.
Phone Calls
NCIC prepaid calling allows incarcerated persons at the Flathead County Detention Center to stay in contact with family and friends.
Calls may include local, long-distance, and international calls. All calls are billed at a per-minute rate.
Video Visits and Messaging
Family and friends can use NCIC to schedule video visits, send messages, and send approved pictures or video messages.
- Video visits: $0.30 per minute
- Messages: $0.25 per message
- Picture and video messages: $0.35 each
Messages and photos are delivered electronically to inmates.
Prepaid Account Benefits
An NCIC prepaid account can be used to manage inmate phone calls, video visits, and messages from one account.

Commissary
Commissary is offered twice a week. Available items may include hygiene items and selected food items.
Cash is the only accepted form of money for inmates. Contact the Detention Center before bringing funds to confirm current procedures.
Mail Rules
Personal inmate mail is not accepted at the facility
Beginning June 1, 2024, personal inmate mail must be sent to the scanning address below. Do not send personal letters directly to the Detention Center.

Personal Mail Requirements
- Personal mail is scanned and delivered electronically by a third-party vendor.
- Original letters and contents are destroyed after scanning.
- Items are not held, forwarded, or returned.
- Maximum of 5 pages per letter.
- Write on the front side only; the scanner cannot scan the back of pages.
- Maximum letter size is 8.5 x 11 inches.
- Maximum of 1 photo per letter.
- No legal mail or medical mail.
- No books, magazines, or packages.
- No cash, money orders, or cashier’s checks.
- The inmate’s PIN must be included.
Legal Mail
Legal mail is only mail sent directly from the inmate’s attorney or the court. Third-party mail or personal mail marked as legal mail will not be treated as legal mail.
- Legal mail must be labeled or stamped “LEGAL MAIL.”
- Legal mail should be addressed to the inmate by name.
- Legal mail must be sent directly to the facility at 920 S. Main St., Suite 100, Kalispell, MT 59901.
- Legal mail must include a return address with the sending entity’s name, such as an attorney, law firm, or court, and a phone number for verification.

Saturday Visiting Hours
Visiting hours are 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a lunch break from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Visitor sign-in begins at 11:45 a.m.
Sunday Visiting Hours
Visiting hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a lunch break from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Visitor Requirements
A maximum of 2 people may visit an inmate at one time. Each inmate may have one visit per day.
You must be over 18 years old to visit an inmate.
Programs and Inmate Services
A.A. and N.A.
Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous groups meet in the jail to provide 12-step support for people dealing with alcohol or drug addiction.
Book Cart
Reading materials are provided for inmate use. Books and magazines are donated by churches, businesses, and individuals and are delivered weekly to housing areas.
Outdoor Recreation
The facility provides access to an outdoor recreation area for fresh air and exercise.
Facility Information
The Detention Center opened in October 1987 with a holding capacity of 63. Following the 2018 expansion, the facility has 154 beds.
Detention staff receive training through the Montana Law Enforcement Academy on offender management practices. Officers are also CPR and First Aid qualified.
