Role of the County Commission
The Board of County Commissioners serves as Flathead County's executive and legislative governing body. The Board is responsible for establishing county policies, adopting budgets, setting property tax levies, approving county ordinances and resolutions, and overseeing the administration of county government.
Commissioners also review subdivisions, establish special districts, appoint residents to county boards and committees, and make decisions that affect county services, infrastructure, public safety, and long-range planning.
The Board consists of three commissioners elected to six-year terms. Commissioners reside within commission districts but are elected countywide by Flathead County voters.
