Evacuation Warning changed to an Clear Status - effective 12:00 pm August 17, 2026
Effective today at 12:00 p.m., the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office will change the evacuation status for the Good Creek/Alder Creek area from Evacuation Warning to Clear.
The change to Clear reflects that there is no longer a current threat from the Skillet Fire to the Good Creek/Alder Creek area.
Closure orders for the Flathead and Kootenai National Forests remain in effect to provide for public and firefighter safety during ongoing fire suppression and repair activities associated with the Skillet Fire. The closure includes roads, trailheads, trails, day-use areas, and campgrounds.
Important Information for Property Owners and Residents
Expect firefighting personnel, heavy equipment, and support vehicles throughout the area. Drive slowly, use caution, and be prepared for delays. Be alert for emergency vehicles and crews working along roadways, and always yield to firefighting equipment and personnel.
Respect all closure signs, barricades, and directions from fire personnel. These restrictions remain in place for your safety and to allow firefighters to continue their work efficiently.

The Evacuation Order issued August 1 for the Good Creek and Alder Creek area remains in effect.
The fire grew on all sides on August 1, with winds pushing it east and northeast. There was substantial growth to the northeast toward the 2023 East Fork Fire footprint. The current forecast calls for cooler temperatures and higher humidity today and tomorrow.

Evacuation Order issued by Sheriff Heino due to weather conditions and fire behavior that present a threat to life safety in the Good Creek and Alder Creek area near Olney.

July 30, 2026 — Evacuation Warning (no longer in effect)
An Evacuation Warning was issued for part of the Olney area on July 30, 2026. It was replaced by an Evacuation Order on August 1, 2026.
The Evacuation Warning covered the following addresses near Olney:

- All addresses on Old Good Creek Road
- All addresses on Gregg Creek Road
- All addresses on Alder Creek Road
