How to Spot a Scam
Before responding to any payment request, check for these warning signs.
Red Flags to Watch For
- Use of the County Seal instead of the department logo.
- A request to pay by wire. Flathead County does not accept wire payments. We only accept checks or credit cards.
- A charge for an "Approval Fee." The Planning and Zoning office does not charge any Approval Fees. Review the current fee schedule to see what we actually charge.

Report a Scam
Our IT Department recommends reporting scams to the Federal Trade Commission. If you receive any payment request that seems suspicious, contact our office to verify it before paying.
