Sewage and Septic

Apply for a septic permit, look up an existing permit, schedule groundwater monitoring, get licensed as an installer, or report a septic problem. Start with a Land Research Request before applying for a new permit.

Land Research Request Form Look up an existing septic permit, a Certificate of Subdivision Approval (COSA), or what a property is approved for. Submit this before applying for a septic permit. Septic Permit Application Apply for a residential or commercial septic permit after you've received a response to your land research request. Look Up a Septic Permit Search the county GIS map for existing septic permits and Certificates of Survey. If nothing appears, submit a Land Research Request Form. Groundwater Monitoring Learn how groundwater monitoring sets drainfield placement, plus program forms and fees. Active roughly March 15–June 30. Licensed and Self-Installers Testing, licensing, and renewal requirements for septic installers and homeowners installing their own systems. Report a Septic System or Other Violation Report a failing or non-compliant septic system or another environmental health concern.

About the Septic Program

Sewage is a potential source of groundwater contamination. Without proper treatment, it can pollute drinking water over time and create a public health hazard.

The Land and Septic program works to reduce contamination of high-quality state waters through education and enforcement of safe practices. This includes environmental analysis, permitting of septic systems, and investigating violations and complaints.
